Aims of the Commission

  • Advance the study of geographical information science in the world
     

  • Enhance the role and contributions of geographers in the development of GISc and GISc in the development of geography
     

  • Promote worldwide cooperation among geographers with respect to scientific research and education in the field of geographical information science
     

  • Create a network of people and research centres in geography that are related to geographical information science.
     

  • Serve as a focus for the worldwide GISc education and research community
     

  • Enable geographers to have better access to geographical data for the formulation of geographical knowledge

 

Goals of the Commission

  • Establish international research and educational priorities in GISc
     

  • Evaluate and promote the role of geography and within geography and assess the influences of geography, as a discipline, on GISc
     

  • Expand and rationalize GISc within the geography curriculum
     

  • Address issues of certification and standards in GI practice and education



 

  • Promote effective, efficient and responsible use of geographical information (GI) in society.
